The Reason behind Fortnite's success.

Fortnite: Battle Royale has easily become the most successful game created to this day. But the question is “why?”… There are plenty other great battle royale games like PUBG but why was it Fortnite that is more successful. One of the reasons is that it is free. Fortnite owes a BIG “thank you” to PUBG as it is one of the reasons that Fortnite got the fame.

When PUBG was introduced, it was a great and appealing concept and people liked the idea of battle royale. A large number of players drop on an island and fight to be the last man standing. When Fortnite: Battle Royale came out people started to move towards it. It was the same old battle royale, but with a twist…. You can build! Everybody liked that idea of being able to build cover whenever an enemy attacked you instead of running for cover behind a tree in games like PUBG.

Fortnite was originally released as a campaign mode game called “Save The World” where you had to save the world from a giant storm that had taken over the world… and zombies came out of the storm. You had to fight off the zombies and protect the survivors.

The developers of FNBR have managed to keep their fan base and players together by releasing regular weekly updates that bring something exciting into the game such as new weapons, skins, Limited-Time Modes (LTMs) and other stuff like bug and glitch fixes. At the time of writing Season 10 has just started and things have been crazy.

A special thing that separates Fortnite from any other online video game and makes it awesome is that it is the first game ever to do live in-game events. Millions of players tuned in to Fortnite to see the season 9 ‘robot vs. monster’ event which was arguably one of the craziest Fortnite events yet.

Every season, there are new map changes, new battle passes, new cosmetic items, new storylines and excitement for the next seasons to come.  One thing that has really attracted new players is Fortnite’s ever-growing storyline. Every season more and more parts of the Fortnite storyline are discovered and they connect perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle the more you learn.  Fortnite has a really interesting storyline and every map change happens for a reason. This is a factor that no other online multiplayer game has had and this is one reason why people are so interested in this game.

Fortnite has literally started to pay people to play their game. The Fortnite world cup finals just ended and ‘Bugha’ is the Fortnite world champion. There was a $30 million prize pool and everybody who qualified for the finals received a reward. 1^st position got $3 million dollars while 2^nd position got $1.8 million (Psalms got the 2^nd position)  while everybody in the top 20 got higher rewards, everybody else who got to the finals (21^st  position holders  - 100^th position holders) had received $50,000 each.

Fortnite basically has this huge pile of cash on their table and they are like “just play”.

Fortnite also owes a great deal to content creators as they are basically free advertising for games. The gaming industry is the largest and most successful industry in the world right now and a lot of people watch gaming content on the internet through platforms like YouTube and Twitch. When people watch their favourite YouTuber or content creator play a video game, they might start developing their own interest into it and as a result will start playing the game for themselves.

Fortnite currently boasts over 300 million players around the world. Another reason that the Fortnite community is continuously growing is that they are incredibly responsive; Fortnite employees are always lurking in Fortnite related subreddits, replying to any users who come up with great ideas or report a bug.  They are constantly adding new updates to the game to enhance user experience and gameplay. Fortnite has made Epic Games (the developers of Fortnite) very rich and successful and they would like to keep it that way by making sure they are always ahead of their competitors.

However the two main reasons to Fortnite’s incredible success are that it is a very new and never-seen-before idea to be able to build; the second and equally important reason is that it is free to play unlike other popular games like PUBG.
